Chemical Analyses of Refuse Components

چکیده
The proximate and ultimate analyses of 20 constitu ents of municipal and commercial refuse are presented, to .. gether with the calorific values. The analyses are useful o incinerator engineers as they are the basis for calcu Jating air requirements, flue .. gas volumes, and heat and material balances. The analyses of components of refuse permit the calculation of composite analyses of mixed refuse from known proportions. Future investigations Brc suggested to obtain more complete refuse data and to de termine the variability of municipal refuse. Introduction Millions of tons of solid wastes are burned annually by communities, industries, agriculture, commercial establishments, and residences. At least 4.51b of refuse are generated daily per capita in U.S. cities. Incinera tors to consume the reluse range from small batch-led units to large municipal plants with furnaces, each of which burns over 10 tph, 24 hr/day, by continuous firing on'moving grates. The cost of the large plants is upward of 84500 per ton..!ay (24 hr) 01 capacity. Modern engineering design of incinerators begins with a known or ssumed analysis and weight of eluse. The refuse determines the quantity 01 air required, the heat released, the volume of flue gas produced, and hence the size and proportion of ducts, flues, chambers, and stacks. " The variability 01 reluse and the lack of interest in refuse as a fuel for steam generation have caused some delay in -{entific studies of refuse. However, interest in refuse

Refuse Composition And flue-Gas Analyses from Mun;c;pal Incinerators
An alyses of the components of municipal refuse were assembled, from which an average· composite analysis was calculated. The analyses of the flue and stack gases from 18 municipal incin erators were also tabu lated and plotted. A marked difference was n oted be tween the analyses of the stack gases and those to be expected from the combustion of the composite refuse. Much of the difference c...
متن کاملCheITlical Analyses of the Organic Portions of Household Refuse; the Effect of Certain Elements on Incineration and Resource Recovery
Household refuse, often considered merely waste for disposal, is being considered as fuel for utility boilers [1] , for chemical feedstock for pyrol ysis to produce fuel gas and oil [2,3], and as media for anaerobic digestion by bacteria to produce methane [4]. Previous chemical analyses of this por tion of municipal solid waste were directed only at incineration [5] . The organic portion of ...
متن کاملThe Pyrolysis of Refuse Components
During the heating of organic refuse out of contact with air, water, gases and liquids are evolved, leaving a char residue. Ten refuse components from domestic waste were distilled on a laboratory scale, the gaseous products were analyzed and the yields determined. The gases included mainly CO2, CO, H2, CH4, with mixture calorific values of 300 400 Btu per standard cu ft. The yield weights were...

Chamomile is a medicinal plant with high economic value. In this research, 20 chamomile ecotypes collected from different regions of Iran were evaluated for genetic and chemical diversity. DNA was extracted by CTAB and polymerase chain reaction was performed using 13 RAPD markers. Essential oils extraction was performed by water distillation using Clevenger system. Components of the essential o...
متن کاملSuitability assessment for handling methods of municipal solid waste
Solid waste management is challenging in Phnom Penh city, Capital of Cambodia. The only one formal treatment taken is the final disposal of mixed waste into an open dumpsite. The current study analyses the physical and chemical characteristics of municipal solid waste disposed of in the dumpsite to assess their suitable handling methods. The current study found that the major compositions of wa...
